A soccer player who went on to have a career in the Canadian Football League despite not going out for the sport until his second year of high school is among the Fort Erie Sports Wall of Fame’s 2025 induction class.
Derek Schiavone, who also played hockey while growing up in his hometown, wasn’t the only athlete for more than one season whose accomplishments will be commemorated with a plaque hanging inside Fort Erie Leisureplex.
The first post-pandemic induction class also honoured George Moses, who won championships in both of Canada’s national sports in 1973, as well as a boys baseball team that took Ontario titles at the midget, juvenile, and intermediate age levels from 1949 until 1951.
