Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Public Health Department has escalated its response to a surge in dengue cases by declaring a ‘Red Alert’ for the districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Coimbatore. The warning comes as official data reveals a significant proportion of fever cases in these urban centers are testing positive for the mosquito-borne disease, prompting calls for heightened public vigilance. The declaration is based on concerning statistics: in Chennai, 3,665 out of 12,264 fever cases have been confirmed as dengue; in Tiruvallur, 1,171 out of 9,367 cases; and in Coimbatore, 1,278 out of 7,998 cases.
The primary vector for the disease is the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which thrives in stagnant water and is a daytime biter. Health officials emphasize that the infection can spread rapidly whe
