Connor McDavid gave serious thought to leaving the Edmonton Oilers. He did.

The Oilers captain confirmed Tuesday what everyone had been fearing for months — that Edmonton’s nightmare scenario was very much on the table.

It’s something he and his inner circle went back and forth on for weeks, trying to decide whether he should stay or should he go. Should he re-sign with the Oilers or play out the final year of his contract and become the biggest free agent in NHL history, having his pick of anywhere in the league?

“I said everything was on the table and I meant it,” said McDavid, in his first media availability since signing a stunning two-year contract extension Monday.

“Of course, everything was on the table. That’s the point of being in that situation — that you have your options.
