Spanish legend and Inter Miami defender Jordi Alba announced Tuesday that he will retire at the end of the season.

Alba, 36, starred at Barcelona before reuniting with former teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets with the Herons.

Alba's announcement comes just weeks after Busquets confirmed that he also will retire.

"The moment has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life. I've decided to bring my professional football career to an end at the conclusion of this season," Alba said in a video posted on Instagram. "I do so with complete conviction, peace and happiness. Because I feel I've walked this path with every ounce of passion I had and now it's the right time to open a new chapter and close the previous one with the best possible feeling.
