The two high-rise towers planned for the former home of the Los Angeles Times in downtown L.A. may not be coming after all.

The Times Mirror Square project — so called because it would include the rehabilitation of the Times, Plant and Mirror buildings — near City Hall was approved by the City Council in 2021, but Vancouver-based Onni Group told the Wall Street Journal that inflation has slowed progress.

“Given market conditions, we’ve put that, among other projects, on hold,” said Duncan Wlodarczak, Onni's chief of staff.

That decision puts in limbo the creation of two towers, one 53 stories and the other 37, containing more than 1,100 housing units and nearly 35,000 square feet of commercial space.
