Six years ago, Niagara’s Paul Harper watched his wife Jenn wheel and deal on Dragons’ Den.

Now, the TV cameras are pointed his way.

The St. Catharines foodie is among 15 contestants for the eighth season of “MasterChef Canada,” which premiered last week on CTV. The 11-episode season pits non-professional chefs from across the country in a series of cooking challenges, with the winner receiving $100,000.

Harper, who works in pharma marketing, has watched “MasterChef Canada” and other cooking competition shows for years, always wondering how he’d fare if he was chosen for one.

Last November, he got the call. As excited as he was, he couldn’t let anyone outside of his boss and immediate family know.
