A double murder-suicide that claimed the lives of a "loving mother" and her "shining light” daughter has rocked the Portland, Ore., community.

Just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, Portland police responded to a call about gunfire at a home on Southeast 64th Ave.

Inside the home, they found the bodies of 48-year-old Maria Florencia Rubio and 10-year-old Liliana Morgan. Both of them had been shot and killed by Rubio’s son, 22-year-old Miguel Morgan, according to police.

Miguel then turned the gun on himself and died by suicide, police said.

Rubio “loved our family with all of her heart," her surviving son, 20-year-old Mateo Christian, wrote in a GoFundMe he organized to help defray funeral costs and pay for bills, including the mortgage on the family’s home.
