Madera County’s new Chief Administrative Officer is Matthew Treber, who has had a big hand in spurring economic development there.
The Board of Supervisors promoted Treber to CAO in a unanimous vote on Tuesday morning. He succeeds Jay Varney, who announced his retirement in August and left the position on Sept. 19. Varney had become the county’s top executive when COVID upturned local governments.
“I’m incredibly honored and humbled at the opportunity to lead this incredible organization, and I remain committed to serving our community with integrity, collaboration, and purpose,” Treber said in a statement.
Treber became Chief of Development Services in 2020, overseeing the Economic Development, Public Works, and Water and Natural Resources departments.
