TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — Travis County is launching a new child care program called Raising Travis County.
On Tuesday, commissioners approved $21 million in funding to create another 1,000 child care scholarships for families. The money comes from a child care initiative voters approved last year.
Officials say this will help children and parents in Travis County.
"Today's finalization of these contracts is about more than child care; it's about long-term economic resilience,” said Yael Lawson, interim CEO of Workforce Solutions Capital Area. “When parents can work and kids get the strong start they deserve, we all win."
The money will also provide gap funding for child care providers. Often, state scholarship amounts don't cover the true cost of providing care.
