GASSAWAY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - In less than two weeks, a new local grocery store is set to open in Braxton County.
One shopper says he can’t wait.
“It’s fantastic,” resident Howard Carpenter said. “It’s a lot closer.”
The new store, Elk River Market of Gassaway, signed the lease last month. This comes after Kroger shut its doors for a final time in August.
Owner Jamason Sparks says they’re excited to offer another option for shoppers.
“We had a lot of people reach out saying it’s such a need for the community, so we saw it as an opportunity to help us as well as them,” Sparks said.
“Means a lot to have someone local that we feel like is part of our family here in this county for years,” Carpenter said.
The store will offer locally sourced grocery items and meat cut in-house.
