LANCASTER, Ohio — A Lancaster neighborhood is reeling after a young boy was shot inside his home Monday evening.

Police say the boy was found in the basement of his Summitview Drive home with a gunshot wound while his grandparents, uncle and a friend were inside at the time. The boy was flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Neighbor and close friend Matthew Scarberry said he had been at the boy’s house just an hour before the shooting.

“I heard a big bang,” Scarberry said. “I shrugged it off like it was nothing, and after that, I realized it was a gunshot.”

Lancaster police records show a Glock semi-automatic handgun was found in a hallway. Investigators say the friend told them he moved the weapon there during the incident.
