ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Classes at South Carolina State University will resume on Wednesday after two separate shooting incidents on campus over the weekend left one person dead and one injured.

As investigators continue their work, students and university leaders said they are focused on improving safety and preventing another tragedy.

South Carolina State junior Jeffrey Brown said students still feel safe but want to see stronger, more qualified security on campus. “Definitely trained security, not just using a company that just hires anyone random, but trained security will be better because the police officers on campus do need more help,” he said.

Brown said students have also appreciated the support they have received from the Orangeburg community, including churches and local organ
