RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond Animal Care and Control received its largest donation ever from Team Tommie memorial license plates — $136,590, which will help save animals across Virginia.
Tommie the pit bull was tied to a pole and set on fire at Abner Park in Richmond. The community supported RACC with many donations to save him. But sadly, he died 5 days later.
“We had all of these gifts waiting, and we thought, what would be a great way to put that money to use, work to saving other animals. And so we created what we call now the Tommie Fund,” said Christie Chipps Peters, director of RACC.
They took it further by creating the #teamtommie license plate . Virginia drivers can buy one for their vehicles, with $15 from every one sold going into the fund.
