RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares is condemning his Democratic challenger, Jay Jones , after the revelation of violent and graphic text messages Jones sent to Republican Del. Carrie Coyner in 2022. The messages have sparked a growing backlash for a critical race in the Democratic ticket this November.
In an interview with WUSA9, Miyares said Jones’ remarks, in which he fantasized about urinating on the graves of political opponents and shooting then–House Speaker Todd Gilbert, demonstrate “a mindset that makes him disqualified from serving in this office.”
