WACO, Texas — A routine demolition project in Lufkin has turned into a viral sensation after contractors uncovered a vintage Dr Pepper mural hidden inside an old jailhouse slated for redevelopment.

The decades-old advertisement, which experts believe dates back to the 1920s and 1930s, has captured attention on social media for its glimpse into a bygone era of soft drink marketing.

The city immediately paused demolition work when the mural was discovered and is now evaluating the building's structure while exploring preservation options.

"The City of Lufkin recognizes the historic importance of this mural, and we're currently exploring opportunities to preserve it," city officials wrote on Lufkin's Instagram account. "While we can't yet confirm the outcome, we're optimistic and grateful
