OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Lindel Fields was officially sworn in as the new Superintendent of Public Instruction for the state of Oklahoma Tuesday.

He was appointed to the position last week by Governor Kevin Stitt.

Afterwards, Lindel sat down with members of the media to explain his plan moving forward.

He said his three top priorities were literacy, career pathways, and teacher recruitment and retention, which he called a “super high” priority.

"There's some initiatives that have been put into place that need to be refined," said Fields.

Fields also laid out a three-phase plan to “turn around” the state Department of Education.
