A federal judge ordered Tuesday that an alleged Chicago gang member be held in federal custody - for now - after he was charged in a murder-for-hire plot against acting U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino.

In recent weeks, Bovino has largely been seen as the most prominent member of the Trump administration in Chicago - conducting increased immigration enforcement operations under a program the federal government dubbed "Operation Midway Blitz."

Hundreds of undocumented people in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs have been arrested during the immigration operations.
