Long Beach is one step closer to having an official name for its new professional baseball team.

The Long Beach Baseball Club has narrowed its citywide team-naming contest to six semifinalists and will now open community voting, which will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 8, and run through Oct. 15.

As a new independent professional baseball organization, the Long Beach Baseball Club is working to build a team that reflects the people and culture of Long Beach, officials said. They launched a team-naming contest for the community last month, which received hundreds of submissions.
