The customer of a Kroger store in Southgate was fatally stabbed Tuesday afternoon, Southgate police said.
The customer, whose name wasn’t released, was identified as a 23-year-old resident of Southgate.
The alleged assailant, whose name also wasn’t released, was taken into custody after the attack at about 3 p.m., said police.
The reason for the attack wasn’t immediately known.
The store at 16705 Fort Street was closed for hours after the incident. The store said it was working closely with authorities as they investigate the death.
“We are deeply saddened by the incident,” the store said in a statement. “The safety of our customers and associates remains our highest priority.”
The incident involved multiple stab wounds, said police.
