Gov. Tina Kotek has called for the Oregon and California National Guard members waiting at Oregon military bases to be sent home, following a federal judge's order blocking their deployment to Portland .

The letter to General Gregory Guillot, the Commander of the U.S. Northern Command, asks for the 400 National Guard members, 200 each from Oregon and California, to be demobilized.

"Our citizen soldiers deserve better than to be uprooted from their families and careers, only to be mobilized for an illegal mission," Kotek wrote to Guillot.

The Oregon National Guard members, who underwent three days of training and are currently at the Camp Rilea military base in Warrenton, are from units based in Salem and Woodburn . They were selected because they had recently been trained in crowd c
