LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - It’s often not until college, sometimes later, when a person realizes how essential it is to a decent credit score.

At SOWELA Technical College, students filled the Sycamore Student Center to learn how to manage credit and eventually buy a home, something many say feels out of reach.

A student and vice president at SOWLA, Bryce Chapman, shares why he thinks more students lean towards getting a credit card.

“Rising prices definitely have a significant factor in how much we’re able to pay off, but it’s also a significant factor in why we even took the credit card in he first place,” Chapman said.

Experts say building credit is crucial, especially with inflation and interest rates making it tougher for young adults to qualify for loans or mortgages.
