The aircraft, an Airbus EC130 T2, was equipped with a crash-resistant fuel system—technology designed to prevent or delay post-crash fires. The system is believed to have played a role in the absence of flames after impact. Expert Tommy Ishii says the pilot appeared to aim for a dark, open area to avoid homes and traffic. Federal investigators are now working to determine the cause of the crash.
