SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Spokane Valley Fire Department is drawing attention to fire safety measures during Fire Prevention Week, specifically focusing on rechargeable tool batteries.
As fall settles in and yard work concludes, the department is emphasizing the importance of charging lawn tool batteries outside on a flat, dry surface to reduce fire risk.
If a battery heats up, any running equipment should never be left unattended. Proper winter storage of tools involves detaching batteries and emptying any fuel tanks, according to the department.
Residents are encouraged to follow these safety tips to prevent potential fires as the season changes.
