MENTOR, Ohio (WJW) - A Mentor mom is hailed a hero for saving her young daughter from a vicious dog attack.
Alexis Higham and her 4-year-old Carina were walking on a trail behind Rushton Drive Saturday, heading toward Veterans Park when they saw the dog.
“My daughter said, 'look, there’s a dog' and I said, 'don’t touch the dog.' She knows we have to ask before we touch,” said Higham.
Seconds later, she said the unattended dog lunged at Carina.
“They say pit bulls lock down. That’s not true because he grabbed her face, let go, grabbed another side, let go and grabbed her other side,” said Higham. “I took the water bottle out of my purse immediately and started to hit the dog.”
The dog released the child, but then latched onto Alexis’s left arm.
