Several National Night Out events were held across the region on Tuesday. In Dallas’ Oak Cliff neighborhood, hundreds of people gathered at Kiest Park to talk about community and public safety.

There was music, live band performances, free food and time spent with neighbors.

New Dallas City Council member Maxie Johnson said the turnout showed District 4 residents are focused and engaged.

“Involvement brings investment, and that’s what you see going right now,” Johnson said.

New Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux made a brief stop at the event. He told attendees his focus as chief would be education and awareness, as well as law and order.
