WACO, Texas — The former Indian Springs Middle School has long stood as a symbol of education and community in Waco. Now, it will soon become the centerpiece of downtown's next chapter.
The City of Waco and Waco ISD held a joint meeting to consider a $32.2 million land deal for the former school property that the district owns; that agreement passed.
Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Spicer says the sale will help the district get back on track financially.
"It will also help us on the fiscal side to make sure we have opportunities to support our students," Spicer said. "In the past, our district has had a deficit budget. We have the opportunity to go into the school year, future years, next year and years to come without having a deficit budget."
