KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- As the government shutdown concludes its seventh day, many federal employees are left facing financial uncertainty and emotional strain.
While not all workers are furloughed, those who are have been forced to stay home, unsure when or if their next paycheck will come.
Among them is Jefferson Suchman, president of AFGE Local 1748 in Kansas City, Missouri. Suchman, who is currently furloughed, said the shutdown has upended his daily life and family routine.
"My routine is to go to work and, you know, drop Saddie (daughter) off on the way, that’s my routine, and that’s been taken from me," Suchman said.
Suchman represents local employees with the Department of Labor, an agency that saw thousands of workers sent home immediately after the shutdown began.
