KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City officials will sign papers Wednesday verifying the KC Streetcar's Main Street Extension is safe and secure for riders. It is set to open October 24.

FOX4 asked city leaders about their plans to keep riders safe when they leave areas along the streetcar route for new accessible destinations including Country Club Plaza, the Nelson Atkins Museum and most notably Westport.

"It's incredibly important. We want people to feel safe in this part of town. We spend a lot of time and a lot of money in our community improvement districts to work on safety issues," Midtown KC Now Executive Director Kevin Klinkenberg said.

The Westport Entertainment District is known for attracting happy hour diners and night owls.
