LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Metro council members are proposing an ordinance to create a Louisville Parks police department.
The council's public safety committee is set to consider the ordinance at Wednesday's meeting.
If established, the new department would operate under Louisville Parks and Recreation and would primarily provide services to the Metro's parks. However, officers could also be called to assist other police or law enforcement agencies.
Leaders say they want to protect the investment the city has made into the parks and make them safer for the community.
