UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A plan to redevelop part of United Hebrew Cemetery is not getting the support of the city’s stormwater commission , which voted unanimously Tuesday afternoon not to recommend that the city council approve the rezoning and conditional use permit request.

The Enclaves at Canton Avenue project would clear an 11-acre forested area on the western portion of the cemetery to build 106 townhomes. While the plan and traffic commissions have already given their support, the stormwater commission’s opposition adds another hurdle for the controversial development.

Arthur Wasserman, who lives on the western edge of the development property, welcomed the commission’s decision. “So glad to hear it,” Wasserman said after the vote.
