KENTUCKY, USA — Football teams at Fort Campbell and Fort Knox are able to resume after being sidelined temporarily by the federal government shutdown .

According to Senator Mitch McConnell, the decision to allow athletics and extracurricular activities was reversed by the Department of Defense.

Fort Campbell and Fort Knox were scheduled to play on Oct. 3 but had their games postponed.

McConnell said in a written letter to DoD Secretary Pete Hegseth that those disruptions had a domino effect on not just football, but other activities would limit “students’ opportunities as they prepare for college, the workforce and service in the military.”

McConnell thanked Hegseth for creating the exception to allow athletics to continue at DoD Education Activity schools.
