Junior midfielder Aiden Korby had a moment to remember for Cloquet-Esko-Carlton on Tuesday night, scoring a penalty kick with less than three minutes to play as the Lumberjacks defeated Chisago Lakes 2-1 in a Section 7AA boys soccer semifinal at Members Cooperative Credit Union Stadium.
The Wildcats struck early, taking the lead in the third minute, though CEC wasn’t down for long, as Brahm Snesrud equalized for the third-seeded hosts just four minutes later.
The teams were stuck at 1-1 for much of the rest of the evening, though CEC had a 13-5 advantage in shots on target over the 80 minutes.
After CEC drew a foul in the penalty area, Korby stepped up and struck a match-winner that sent the third-seeded Lumberjacks into a section semifinal on Thursday against Grand Rapids.
