The director of the New Hanover County Board of Elections has retired ahead of the 2025 municipal election.

New Hanover elections director Rae Hunter-Havens is retiring effective immediately citing health reasons, according to a joint statement from Hunter-Havens and Board of Elections Chair Jamie Getty on Oct. 7.

“Rae has given years of service to this community, and we appreciate her commitment to public service,” Getty said in the statement. “The Board of Elections staff are prepared and ready to administer the upcoming municipal election with the fairness, accuracy, and transparency that voters expect and deserve.”
