A latest aid flotilla bound for the Gaza Strip was blocked by the Israeli military early Wednesday and the activists onboard detained.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said a group of eight boats seeking to break Israel's blockade on the Palestinian territory had been intercepted and boarded in international waters.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed its operation and said the vessels would be taken to an Israeli port.

It follows the interception of a larger flotilla on October 2.
