A jury found a New Windsor man guilty of rape following a trial in Orange County Court.

Ernest Gilles, 24, of New Windsor, was found guilty of third-degree rape, a felony, and second-degree unlawful imprisonment, a misdemeanor, according to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.

The jury reached its verdict Oct. 7.

It was alleged during the trial that Giles engaged in sexual intercourse without the other person's consent on July 22, 2024 in the City of Newburgh.

During the incident, Gilles allegedly prevented the victim from leaving the location.

The incident was promptly reported to City of Newburgh police, who arrested Gilles after an investigation.

"The guilty verdict announced today affirms how the truth of a brave survivor cannot be silenced," Hoovler said in a statement
