Ukraine on Tuesday said it captured an Indian citizen who had been fighting alongside the Russian military during the ongoing conflict between the two countries, PTI reported.

The 63rd Mechanised Brigade of Ukraine’s armed forces released on its Telegram channel a purported video showing the Indian national, Majoti Sahil Mohamed Hussein from Gujarat’s Morbi.

Hussein said he had gone to Russia to study at a university there.

In the video, Hussein speaking in Russian, is saying that he was sentenced to seven years in a Russian prison on drug-related charges, PTI reported.

He added that he was offered the chance to sign a contract with the Russian military to avoid further punishment.
