On Saturday, Oct. 4, the School of Justice, Public Safety, and Law Studies at Miami Dade College’s North Campus was draped in black and purple for the Jason Dwayne Campbell Foundation’s inaugural gala.

The foundation was created by former State Sen. and three-term state Rep. Daphne Campbell.

It is named after her son, Jason Campbell, who was shot and killed in an apartment building in North Miami-Dade County in 2021. The nonprofit, a registered 501(c)(3) organization , will provide support to the families of victims of gun violence, and organize outreach initiatives targeting young people, according to its website .
