After a back and forth game that featured three Pingry leads and two ties, it was ultimately the final lead change — a goal with 2:43 left in double overtime, that proved the difference in a battle of state powers.

It was then that St. Benedict’s sophomore Taslim N-Nyiah buried the game winner for the state’s No. 1 team, to run St. Benedict’s to 9-0-1 on the season, preserve their unbeaten season and hold on to the No. 1 ranking in a 4-3 win over No. 4 Pingry in a rematch of last year’s Non-Public A final.

The first three St. Benedict’s goals were scored by Gray Bees standout Amadou Hann, who returned from a suspension for his involvement in a postgame brawl following St. Benedict’s 1-1 tie with then-No. 4 St. Peter’s Prep back on Sept. 27.
