Passenger rail cars built in Lexington made the 2025 list of the ”Coolest Thing Made in NC.”

The rail cars are manufactured at the Siemens Mobility plant in Davidson County. The electrified and sustainable approach to producing passenger rail cars for Amtrak earned the company the honor.

The N.C. Chamber times the annual honors for the annual National Manufacturing Day.

The sixth annual contest recognizes three winners: businesses with fewer than 100 employees; businesses between 100 and 999 employees; and businesses with more than 1,000 employees.

Siemens Mobility’s passenger rail cars, also known as rolling stock , are manufactured in Lexington, which began production in 2024 at its $220 million Lexington plant.
