Week 7 of high school football in the Hickory area and Catawba County came with several stellar performances. Here are a few of the players that stood out last weekend.

Hampton Reed, Maiden

One player in North Carolina has logged more receiving yards this season than Maiden’s Hampton Reed.

Reed has played strong games all season, but Friday against Hickory was the strongest so far.

He was unstoppable in the first half, dragging down seven passes for 143 yards. It was more than just big numbers, too. It was the way he did it.

An acrobatic catch in the back of the end zone put Maiden up 7-0 on the first drive of the game. Then, in the second quarter, Grant Lawing hit Reed with a bomb over the top of the Hickory defense. Reed hauled it in, hit the gas and took it 75 yards to
