Don Phipps, the current superintendent at Caldwell County Schools, will be the next superintendent for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.

The school board voted unanimously to approve a 15-month contract with Phipps at a special called meeting on Friday.

Phipps will replace Catty Moore, whose six-month contract with the school district ends on Nov. 30. His first day will be Dec. 1. Phipps will receive a salary of $280,000 a year and $1,000 a month for in-county travel expenses.

Moore indicated to the school board early on that she was not interested in continuing beyond her six months. With the search for a permanent superintendent only recently getting underway and expected to take several months, the school board began looking for an interim, presumably for another six-month contra
