SCOTTSBURG, Ind. — A project five decades in the making is finally underway in Scott County, Indiana. The City of Scottsburg broke ground on a new fire station. They're aiming to expand emergency services to meet the needs of the city’s growing population.

The new station is being built on land purchased nearly 50 years ago by the former Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department, which secured the property with future expansion in mind.

“It was purchased for the sole purpose of being able to build a fire station there for future growth,” said Scottsburg Fire Chief James Richey. “The members of the fire department agreed to sign that property over to the city at no cost to make this possible.”
