Tropical Storm Jerry formed in the Atlantic Ocean on Oct. 7 and is expected to pick up strength in the coming days.

The National Hurricane Center said in an Oct. 8 advisory Jerry was located about 835 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds near 50 mph with higher gusts. Forecasters said Jerry is expected to strengthen during the next few days and will become a hurricane on Thursday, Oct. 9.

The core of the system is forecast to be near or to the north of the northern Leeward Islands late Thursday, Oct. 9 and Friday, Oct. 10, according to the advisory. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest and this motion is expected to continue with a decrease in forward speed during the next few days, followed by a gradual northward turn on Friday.
