TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The final pieces of the pedestrian bridge over U.S. 31 have only been gone a few days, but Traverse City residents are already asking where a replacement bridge will go.
State Rep. Betsy Coffia (D-Traverse City) is pressing the Department of Natural Resources on details.
“Securing funding for the new bridge is at the forefront of everyone’s minds, so determining the true cost of the project has been a priority for me,” Coffia said in a letter to the DNR. “We need a realistic price tag. Then we can explore the best funding sources to pay for a new ADA-compliant bridge.”
The pedestrian bridge connecting the Keith J Charters Traverse City State Park campground and beach area was largely removed on Sept. 20 , with the final abutment removed Oct. 2.
