MONROE, La. (KNOE) - A spark in a barn ignited one of the biggest fire disasters in American history on Oct. 8, 1871.
The two-day blaze is known as The Great Chicago Fire.
It killed between 200-300 people, destroyed more than 17,000 buildings and left 100,000 people homeless.
Dry weather and wooden buildings fueled the fire that left four square miles of Chicago, including the Business District, in ruins.
