Firefighters rescued a dog inside a home in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday while fighting flames in a neighboring unit, authorities said.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said they were called to a fire in a multi-unit apartment building at about 9:50 a.m. at 1132 Northwest 5th Court.

Firefighters got there five minutes later and found smoke coming from the eaves of the building, authorities said.

A resident in a neighboring unit was woken up by the fire and safely evacuated.

The smoke had also spread to a home where crews found a dog in a crate.

Fire rescue said they "removed her and gave her oxygen," and that the pup is doing well.

There was no one in the unit where the fire started, nor in the unit with the dog, authorities said.

It took crews about 10 minutes to put out the flames.
