Over the last few years, public schools and libraries across the country have seen a significant rise in attempts to ban or restrict access to certain books.

In 2024, the American Library Association (ALA) documented 821 attempts to censor library books and other materials. In those cases, 2,452 unique titles were challenged. This was the third highest number of book challenges documented by ALA since it started tracking in 1990.
