As Stanford football tries to bounce back from several tough seasons, a former player has stepped up in a big way. On Wednesday, the school announced a whopping $50 million donation from longtime supporter Bradford M. Freeman — a move that could help reshape the program’s future to a great degree. Freeman, who played for the Cardinal and graduated in 1964, is giving what Stanford says is the biggest individual gift in the program’s history not tied to buildings or facilities. Instead, the money will go directly toward football operations, including scholarships and NIL (name, image, and likeness) support for players. The timing is critical. Stanford is 2-3 this season under interim head coach Frank Reich and has finished 3-9 in each of the past four years. With a coaching search underway
