COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSAV) — A former Calvary Day football player is reportedly no longer on South Carolina's football team, likely leading to a redshirt and transfer portal entry.

WSAV confirmed with a spokesperson that sophomore tight end Michael Smith is no longer on the Gamecocks' roster.

Smith had only appeared in two games this season for the Gamecocks and had not played since Sept. 6 against South Carolina State.

On the season, Smith had two catches for 20 yards. In his freshman season in 2024, he had 10 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown.

Smith was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 out of Calvary Day, ranked as the No. 5 tight end in the country, according to 247Sports.
