TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Kansas Women, Infants, and Children program will soon stop the direct shipping of special formula for infants.

A special formula is often required for infants who are born with cow's milk protein allergy, gastrointestinal disorders, lactose intolerance, sensitive stomachs, metabolic disorders, malabsorption, or who have been born prematurely, or who have other unusual dietary or medical problems that their pediatrician oversees. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Division of Public Health, which oversees the program, says due to the government shutdown, the direct shipment program is being paused.
